GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 672580
Feature request: display colorspace / profile in EOG properties dialog?
Last modified: 2021-06-19 08:45:51 UTC
Hi, it would be nice if EOG would display the colorspace / profile when you view the properties of the image you're viewing. Today it mentions stuff like the resolution and file format and file size. It would be nice if it said if it is RGB or CMYK and which color profiles, if any, are embedded. Thanks for your consideration! :)
(Oh, just to provide some backstory to why I'm requesting this: I have some CMYK graphics and some RGB graphics in a directory. I prepared the CMYK versions to send to the printer. However, it's not clear to me which one is the CMYK one because I named the files stupidly, and I had to use ImageMagick on the command line to figure it out. It seems like an important piece of information for people who send things to a printer.)
I was thinking about that too. Was just not sure how far the informations should go. Just printing the profile title or if we should also try to show the colorspace diagram like g-c-m does. Well, showing the profile name should be doable I guess and is probably enough in most cases. Could maybe replace the "Description" entry which is not optimal as a one line label.
So, how is it going? Nowadays (3.18.2), if I look at an image's properties from within EOG under Details -> Other there's an entry called "ColorSpace" but it always seems to read "Internal Error (unknown value 65535)". At least for images that have a profile attached. Doesn't show up at all otherwise.
No reply whatsoever? Come on, people... This is important for professional users. I have to fire up Gimp all the time. Ideally it'd show up right on the "properties" sidebar. Just the name will do.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/eog/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
