Description William Jon McCann 2012-03-15 20:16:56 UTC
I'm sitting here reading stuff on my laptop after I turned on the "dim screen to save power" thing that I had apparently turned off at some point. It is really drawing a lot of attention to itself and is pretty distracting. I think this is partly due to the fact that the change is discontinuous and abrupt.
Comment 1 Richard Hughes 2013-07-16 16:23:02 UTC
Most laptops only have 8 or 16 brightness states that can be set in the hardware.
Comment 2 Benjamin Berg 2019-02-01 13:25:17 UTC
I think we can consider this obsolete. This will happen for free if
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/issues/82
  Smooth ramped backlight transitions (#82)
is implemented.
