Description ddreamer 2012-03-12 12:46:03 UTC
After plugging in a USB stick, a new icon will appear in the sidebar panel: places with a following eject button. When the button is pressed, the detected size of the USB is set to 0, as is evidenced in /var/log/messages. This led to some error when I execute another program to make it a bootable linux.

I wondered the necessity to set its capacity to 0 since "umount" in a terminal doesn't do that.

A probable complication of the above is inability to re-mount the USB stick in Gnome Nautilus by double-clicking the USB stick icon. If the USB stick is "umount"ed in a terminal, double-clicking the USB stick icon can just re-mount it.

The words in /var/log/messages are "kernel: [68566.061048] sdb: detected capacity change from 4043308544 to 0"
But, I have found it not appear every time when it is "umount"ed by Gnome Nautilus. But the program to make a bootable linux consistently reported 0MB after it is "umount"ed by Gnome Nautilus but not by "umount" in a terminal.

Hi ddreamer,
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using version 2.30.x which is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes by GNOME developers for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME.

Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME, or feel free to file a bug report in the bug tracking system of your distribution if your distribution still supports this version.
