GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 671563
contacts online from a mobile device are shown with a LANDLINE phone icon
Last modified: 2012-03-08 10:49:17 UTC
Originally reported at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/941208 See screenshot. For ages, on seeing this symbol, I assumed it meant "able to receive an audio call." I fail to see any situation in which a person could use an IM client from a phone like the one depicted in the icon, bar a jailbroken Amstrad e-m@ailer. A generic mobile phone icon, preferably a generic iPhone- or BlackBerry-style smartphone, would be clearer and more accurate, and reduce the potential for confusion.
