GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 670550
Cell value in formula text area is not original value
Last modified: 2012-02-22 00:56:42 UTC
Hi, This is not *really* a bug, but more an annoyance. Here is an example: * Open a new Gnumeric sheet * Type 215.31 in A1 * Select A1 and 215.31 appears in the formula text area. This is expected behavior. * Now, reduce the number of significant digits in A1 using the toolbar button so that 215 appears in A1. * Select A1. * Now 215 appears in the formula text area. For the original number to appear (215.31) in the formula text area requires clicking in this area. This is somewhat tedious when inspecting multiple cells, requiring the user to navigate to each cell and click on the formula text area to see the original value. IMHO, the value in the formula text area should always display the original value (similar to how MS Excel behaves). Thanks in advance for your time with this matter, Vince
I think the situation is somewhat more confusing than you describe. In fact the behaviour seems to depend on when you are formatting the cell. Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 555519 ***
Note that in general we cannot change the original value, we interpret its meaning in the context of the current locale, the current format, decimal separator, etc. All of these things may have changed in the meantime. So the target is to show a reasonable representation of the data as it was interpreted.
