GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 670472
High Contrast 3.3.90 (rewrite) breaks gnome-terminal, other apps
Last modified: 2012-02-22 02:26:44 UTC
Upgrading to gnome-themes-standard 3.3.90 with the High Contrast theme breaks the appearance of several apps (as tested on Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha). gnome-control-center Before: http://imagebin.org/199839 After: http://imagebin.org/199840 Not shown in the above screenshot is that mousing over the All Settings button makes it unreadable: black text on black background. Ubuntu software-center (not as bad, but still a regression) Before: http://imagebin.org/199841 After: http://imagebin.org/199843 But the worst is that gnome-terminal with "Use colors from system theme" option shows black text on black background.

You need GTK+ master (or the yet-to-be-released 3.3.16) for this to work properly; gnome-control-center seems to work fine here. There could be a problem with gnome-terminal though. Can you try again with GTK+ master?
You need to use vte 0.31 for gnome-terminal.
Pushed a fix for the gnome-terminal issue. Closing the bug, since I'm pretty sure the other things you mention are due to a not recent enough GTK version. Feel free to reopen this bug if it's not the case.
Thank you Cosimo. The new gnome-themes-standard and the new GTK fixed the bugs I saw. I also tried the latest gnome-terminal tarball with the vte 0.31 tarball which wasn't enough (I still had the black background).
