GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 669929
[gapless] banshee moves to next song then stops playback
Last modified: 2020-03-17 09:20:39 UTC
Originally reported at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927742 Ubuntu 12.04 alpha 2 banshee 2.3.4.ds-1ubuntu1 Expected: songs should play fine when moving from song to song. Actual: Sometimes (and not all the time), when banshee moves to the next song (in Random and Random-Off) the song will not play. The Icon in the toolbar is in "Play" mode and a "Play" Icon shows up in the list next to the song, but the seconds do not move, and no sounds play. After a random amount of time, it *sometimes* just starts playing the song at about the place it would if it hadn't frozen, other times I have to manually double-click the current song to get it to start, or start the next song. Pressing the Play/Pause button does nothing, but double clicking the song will play it. Because these songs *will* play I don't think it is corrupt songs, especially considering the same library worked fine with bashsee in 11.10. There is no output on the terminal (w/ no switches) when this happens. My library is mostly mp3, but a smattering of FLAC, ogg, and whatever apple sells mixed in.

I have this problem too (Ubuntu 12.04, Banshee 2.4.0 - also tried 2.4.1, which is in Ubuntu's proposed repo at the moment, but same there). Some more infos on this bug: Also happens when the gapless option is off! Happens with OGG files as well. The song files definitely seem to be ok, because the stops on songs change don't happen at the same songs every time: if Banshee stopped on a song change and I manually continue playing by double-clicking the next song, the next time I play the song again after Banshee had stopped initially everything works fine (as long as it happens in the same session)
Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again. See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
