Sorry we never responded to this patch. I think we'd like to have more information to understand why there was a linking problem and why this fixes it.

This patch also changes a Makefile.in file which is a generated file, whereas we'd expect to be patching the Makefile.am file.

Seems I dropped the patch on 2012-07-17 and it built.

Usually those things are for as-needed linking.
