Description Piotr Drąg 2012-02-03 16:04:20 UTC
I don't know how patches to the server software are managed, but it might be a good idea to include a patch from upstream intltool bug [1] to fix extracting application menu translations from .ui files. App menus are a big new feature in upcoming GNOME 3.4 and it would be a shame to have them in English on localized desktops.

It might also be the case that intltool 0.50.1 will be released shortly, and then we should just update damned-lies to it.

Currently the server has 0.41.1. I have personally no permissions on the server to update it. So you should reassign this bug to sysadmin product when you think it would be time to update. If you are lucky, some sysadmin may take notice. Otherwise, you can wait for months :-(
Comment 2 Piotr Drąg 2012-02-03 20:54:14 UTC
I see. So let's wait for 0.50.1 and then try.
Comment 3 Piotr Drąg 2012-02-05 17:26:48 UTC
New version 0.50.1 has been released earlier today. It fixes important bug in app menu translations handling. Without it damned-lies would serve PO/POT files without these strings, resulting in untranslated menus.

should we also upgrade the server at the same time? Newer Ubuntu I mean.
Comment 5 Claude Paroz 2012-02-06 07:42:14 UTC
I have no strong opinion about a server upgrade. But as it is currently the 10.04 LTS, maybe it would be wiser to wait for the next LTS (12.04) as LTS to LTS upgrades should be supported.
Comment 6 Olav Vitters 2012-02-06 08:06:06 UTC
Ok, then let's delay upgrading the server itself. Thought maybe it was needed.
Comment 7 Andrea Veri 2012-02-06 14:38:52 UTC
I had to package and install myself, can you please test if the bug is now resolved on l10n.gnome.org?
Comment 8 Claude Paroz 2012-02-06 19:27:12 UTC
yes, yes, yes! My rant in comment #2 was not justified (or we were simply lucky :-). Thanks for acting quickly.
