Description Tony 2012-02-01 12:55:23 UTC
This is a bug report following on from discussion here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1863325

To summarize.

In KDE with left-handed mouse button enabled...

"left-button-click" signal doesn't get passed on to any Gtk3 apps running in KDE (Only tested on Kubuntu)."

Gedit example:

So, for example: Run gedit under kde, CTRL+O to open file open dialog. Clicking on directory tree, or files 'does not work'.
Keyboard shortcuts then need to be used to navigate, select.

The problem started on ubuntu/kubuntu 11.10.
Have now upgraded to KDE 4.8 (to see if issue is solved), but problem still persists.

The application functions normally with right-handed mouse, and under Gnome.

I do not have enough knowledge to assess whether this is a Gnome or KDE or X server issue.

System: Ubuntu 11.10/ Release: 11.10
Ubuntu 3.0.0-15.26-generic-pae 3.0.13
Linux 3.0.0-15-generic-pae i686
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4
Architecture: i386

 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash

"I do not have enough knowledge to assess whether this is a Gnome or KDE or X
server issue."

In any case, it doesn't seem to be a _gedit_ issue :)
Comment 2 Tony 2012-02-01 13:12:59 UTC
Indeed, Gedit is just one example of an application where the issue occurs.
Any suggestions on if/how it should be classified? Many thanks.
Comment 3 André Klapper 2012-02-02 05:49:25 UTC
Does it work if you go to "*GNOME* System Settings > Mouse and Touchpad > Mouse > General" and choose "Left-handed"?
If you do not want to install gnome-control-center, you could also run the following command:
    gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.mouse left-handed true
Comment 4 Tony 2012-02-02 12:59:42 UTC
It does not work after setting:
gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.mouse left-handed true
nor setting to left-handed in gnome system settings.

The problem persists in all the following situations:

with kdm as display manager
with gdm as display manager
with/without wacom tablet
with/without nvidia proprietary drivers
logged-in as guest user
on a fresh install of kubuntu 10.11 on the same machine (gedit installed after)
on a different machine (laptop) with ubuntu version 11.10 /kubuntu

One thing: with GDM as display manager, the mouse is always right-handed at the login screen. (the following solution: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1619009#2 did not work to change this)
Comment 5 Tony 2012-02-19 12:52:33 UTC
Changed 'Product' category to gtk+ from gedit. (gedit only one example of an application where the issue occurs)
Comment 6 Tony 2012-04-04 19:18:22 UTC
This bug appears to have disappeared with KDE Platform Version 4.8.2, with Gedit 3.4.0.

Sorry closing. Thanks.
