That would make the name of the configure option be consistent, but you still need to change each module to actually do the automake conditionals. What makes this further messy is that only about 50% of gnome modules use gnome-common =/ So I think for now let's just do the per-module...if we decide to go on a "move more shared stuff to gnome-common" kick it'd make sense to look at configure options (warning cflags etc. too) at the same time.
