Description Nelson Marques 2012-01-22 19:07:24 UTC
Currently GNOME has a small interface on the Network configurations to setup proxies. I find the current solution not much user friendly in specific situations:

 * User has the need of having several proxy patterns, examples:
   - $dayjob network uses a proxy;
   - home network doesn't use a proxy;
   - university network does use a proxy (different from $dayjob);
   - etc.

The current offer to manage proxies in GNOME is very limited and it could be improved to improve users experience, for example:

 - Ability to setup proxies for specific networks;
 - Interface tools to change/swap proxy patterns (ex: through the user menu);

I leave this idea, a raw one, to your consideration, in the hope that it can be evaluated and implemented in the future. As a GNOME user, it would be very interesting to have a quick proxy pattern managing tool/UI component to handle this situations.

See bug 640475 about per-connection proxy, bug 664901 about profiles.

Duplicating against the more generic one.
