Description Martin Jacobs 2012-01-06 20:52:32 UTC
From version 2.7.7 to 2.7.8 there was a change in configure.in that prevents libxml2.syms being respected during linkage. Libtool link feature version_script is ignored. That breaks backwards compatibility for other installed packages refrencing previous library versions.

Old configure.in code (up to 2.7.7):

AM_CONDITIONAL([USE_VERSION_SCRIPT], [test -n "$VERSION_SCRIPT_FLAGS"])

New configure.in code (beginning with 2.7.8):

AM_CONDITIONAL([USE_VERSION_SCRIPT], [test -z "$VERSION_SCRIPT_FLAGS"])

Fix:

replace -z with -n

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libxml2/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
