Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
This bug report isn't very useful because it doesn't describe the bug well. If you have time and can still reproduce the bug, please read http://bugzilla.gnome.org/bug-HOWTO.html and add a more useful description to this bug.
Comment 5 garkein 2012-03-16 18:47:04 UTC
Although the original poster's description is really short, I don't find it that useless. At least I found that it matches my problem. I'll try to give a more precise description:

System used: Thinkpad x220, Debian Testing with Gnome 3.2, Kernel 3.3-rc6.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start the notebook from power off state, doing a clean reboot (no resume!).
The system will power up with full display brightness.
2. Let the system start up gdm3
3. Log into Gnome.
4. In Gnome, lower the display brightness, either by using the hardware keys or
   by using the settings menu.
5. log off and shut down the system (no suspend/hibernate).
6. Start again with 1,2,3

Upon restart, neither gdm3 nor Gnome restores the display brightness to the level set before but again leaves it at 100%, which means I have to manually set the brightness every time after a clean reboot.

Richard, will you need further information after comment#5 ?
Comment 7 garkein 2012-09-15 15:04:19 UTC
I'm sorry, but I have to object to this.

The bug is still existing in 3.4.2 with and has been throughout Gnome 3 until now, including various Gnome and kernel updates.

I listed a detailed description in comment 5 about my setup and the steps to reproduce. There was zero reaction on this (apart from comment 6) so setting this to UNCONFIRMED is quite lazy. If someone had asked for more details/logs because he couldn't reproduce it on his system, it would probably already solved.

But nobody did in the last six months. :(
Comment 8 Wei 2012-09-22 10:17:56 UTC
I can tell u more : on Fedora 17 , this problem still exist on my laptop.
applaud for your efficiency .
Comment 9 Adam Dingle 2012-10-29 14:07:32 UTC
I agree: gnome-power-manager should remember the brightness I previously set rather than setting it to 100% at every login.
Comment 10 André Klapper 2020-11-06 20:15:13 UTC
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-power-manager/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
