GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 666697
DVD Playback does not work after upgrade from Fedora 15 to 16
Last modified: 2012-03-04 20:51:42 UTC
Created attachment 204064 [details] Log In Fedora 15 had DVD playback properly enabled. Now, after upgrade to Fedora 16 that does not work anymore.
I dont have the same problem and upgrade with preupgrade command
I did the upgrade via Fedora DVD. Afterwards used # yum update . Checking for DVD playback required components gives that no updates are available in repositories. Now, I have installed: Totem Video-Player 3.2.1 using GStreamer 0.10.35 libdvdread-4.1.4-0.4.svn1226.fc16.x86_64 libdvdcss-1.2.11-1.fc16.remi.x86_64 libdvdnav-4.1.4-0.3.svn1226.fc16.x86_64 gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.18-3.fc16.x86_64 gstreamer-plugins-bad-0.10.22-2.fc16.x86_64
What is that log? And did you file a bug report in Fedora's bugtracker?

(In reply to comment #1) > I dont have the same problem and upgrade with preupgrade command I just wondered what different versions of packages you might have installed?
The log shows: Failed to read next DVD block. Error: Encrypted or faulty DVD The log also shows libdvdcss being used to crack the keys on the DVD. (Some) DVD manufacturers are known to insert errors on purpose on their DVDs to try to prevent people from using them. So, disregarding an unlikely DVD physical damage happening at the same time as the switch, this seems to point to lower down the chain, in either libdvdnav, libdvdcss, or lower level drivers for your DVD drive. You could try installing whichever version of libdvdnav/libdvdcss was in the previous install to check for that (assuming they're ABI compatible). I think this is something that people on your distro's bug tracker would be better placed to help you with. Please let us know in the end if the issue is tracked to GStreamer, and close it if it ends up being elsewhere.
User needs to install 3rd party libraries that are not shipped by his distribution by default. Closing the report.

I assume you compared comment #2 to what needs to be installed and found out what is missing? Can you please name the missing libraries so that I can install them? Thank you again.
I should have written "needed" instead of "needs", sorry. See comment 6 why this is not a GNOME issue.
