GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 666521
[Debian] Alt+F2 not able to start programs
Last modified: 2012-02-20 14:14:42 UTC
Good morning, problems that help the gnome shell .. to freaking out with him! = / Today I started my system and upgraded my packages and repositories (update, upgrade) from there I open firefox the shortcut ALT + F2 and type in firefo when he says 'command not found' it started today, yesterday my system was normal. 3 This gnome every day to amaze me, I looked on google and the only thing I found was to enable the shortcut, the shortcut works but here, the command so that it does not ps. only I can access my files - EX. ~ / (Nautilus) / storage Now w / open programs - EX. firefox, transmission, pidgin etc. .. nothing Video of the error:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmeaxjt_8zw&feature=youtu.be
Don't know if you have Firefox installed from that video. What happens if you press Alt+F2, enter "gedit", and press the Enter key? Which distro is this about? What are your path settings? How did you upgrade/update? If you start a terminal window and enter "firefox" and press the Enter key, does it work?
use debian 7 testing firefox is installed correctly,'ve checked the $ PATH ok, when I type ALT + F2 and put '~ /' or / home / User it opens normally, what happens is that with programs, look at the video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmeaxjt_8zw&feature=youtu.be the terminal if I type in firefox, open standard, only the shortcut to run is that I can not open programs, or with full path "/ usr / bin / firefox 'that occurs with all programs (transmission, firefox, pidgin, skype etc.. .) much use the shortcut, was working normally do not know what happened ..
someone please
Anything interesting in ~/.xsession-errors?
(In reply to comment #4) > Anything interesting in ~/.xsession-errors? there is no such folder
Julian, what's your version of gir1.2-glib-2.0? Also, could you edit /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/misc/util.js, find the trySpawnCommandLine function, and comment the "err.message = ..." line? This should give out the original error message.
gir1.2-glib-2.0 - version installed = 1.31.0-2 I comment that line here? function trySpawnCommandLine(command_line) { let success, argc, argv; try { [success, argc, argv] = GLib.shell_parse_argv(command_line); } catch (err) { // Replace "Error invoking GLib.shell_parse_argv: " with // something nicer err.message = err.message.replace(/[^:]*: /, _("Could not parse command:") + "\n"); throw err; }
(In reply to comment #7) > I comment that line here? > err.message = err.message.replace(/[^:]*: /, _("Could not parse > command:") + "\n"); Yes.
(In reply to comment #8) > (In reply to comment #7) > > I comment that line here? > > err.message = err.message.replace(/[^:]*: /, _("Could not parse > > command:") + "\n"); > > Yes. I like that her whole comment here? ####err.message = err.message.replace(/[^:]*: /, _("Could not parse > > command:") + "\n"); } and this last bracket?
In the source file the line should be a single line, you comment it by prefixing it with //
(In reply to comment #10) > In the source file the line should be a single line, you comment it by > prefixing it with // Hello, I tried to comment out the line / / but still the error remains
And the error message is (as that was the idention of removing that line)?
same message with the line commented, 'command not found'
André you are Brazilian?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dash/+bug/878880 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-2d/+bug/919320 Problem still exists in Ubuntu 12.04 precise beta as of now.
Before upgrading to 12.04 Beta I was using Oneiric and everything was great. now I have this issue. If you need more info let me know. This is happening not only with Alt+F2 but with Unity's Dash (when using Winkey and typing any application name and trying to launch it)
(In reply to comment #16) > This is happening not only with Alt+F2 but with Unity's Dash (when using Winkey > and typing any application name and trying to launch it) So that's not a bug in GNOME. Please file a bug in Launchpad.

In particular, it offers new paradigms for launching applications, accessing documents, and organizing open windows in GNOME. Later, it will introduce a new applets eco-system and offer new solutions for other desktop features, such as notifications and contacts management. The GNOME Shell is intended to replace functions handled by the GNOME Panel and by the window manager in previous versions of GNOME. The GNOME Shell has rich visual effects enabled by new graphical technologies.
