Description Juanjo Marín 2011-12-10 09:48:08 UTC
Some users, for example those with sight or cognitive problems, require bigger mouse pointers.

In GNOME 2.x, it was possible to change the size and theme of the pointer. This was under Appearance Preferences > Theme tab > Customize button > Pointer tab

I think there are two possilble places to add this: (1) as part of the mouse preferences, or (2) the universal access panel, under the "Seeing" tab and (3) part of the mouse preferences, but a "link" to it from the "Seeing" tab.

I think pointer size should be controlled by the text size control.

I'm not sure that text size should control the pointer size. I can definitely think of use cases where one would want them to be different.

Also, a concern is ability to change the mouse cursor colour/theme, which was also in the old pointer customization area. For some users they need to have a different colour from black or white (and right now there's no way I can find to switch even from black to white without going completely to a reverse contrast theme, which not everyone needs).

We *could* add a separate setting for this, but there are some obvious things that we should do beforehand to address this case.

First, the high contrast theme should affect the pointer size.

Second, color effects should affect the pointer color.

I think the design of the setting of the pointer size of pretty neat
