Description Romano Giannetti 2011-12-07 15:37:06 UTC
This is a enhancement - wishlist request.

Nautilus in Gnome3 ditched emblems (and backgrounds) as "not useful". I would just state here my 2 (euro)cents; the emblems where really useful for me and, I think, for a lot more people.

I understand the priority of developers, but I make the humble request of having emblems back.

thanks anyway,

No, this won't be coming back, surely not that incarnation anyway.

See the thread at https://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2010-July/msg00023.html for a more detailed explanation of why it's desirable to remove them, and for possible alternative implementations with the same goal (e.g. colored file labels).
Comment 2 Romano Giannetti 2011-12-07 17:24:24 UTC
Well, I understand the reasoning --- especially if maintaining that code was a burden.

Nevertheless, emblems (especially on folders) where a nice, theme-independent way of visually navigate in big directories. A colored label would not be the same.

But if the API interface is not to go away, I suppose there will be extension that will use them, or maybe other file managers. Open source, as we know, it's basically a matter of open choice.

Thank you anyway to take the time to answer.
