Description Pierre Wieser 2011-11-24 22:25:43 UTC
When I am building the NACT user's manual to a pdf format, the 'es' translation does not work:

dblatex --output es/nautilus-actions-config-tool.pdf ../../docs/nact/es/nautilus-actions-config-tool.xml
Build the book set list...
Build the listings...
XSLT stylesheets DocBook - LaTeX 2e (0.3)

This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6)
 %&-line parsing enabled.
entering extended mode
pdflatex failed
nautilus-actions-config-tool.tex:2305: Paragraph ended before \T1\' was complete.
nautilus-actions-config-tool.tex:2305: leading text: \caption{Abrir una terminal aqui\'}
Unexpected error occured

I think that there is most probably some error in the es.po, as all other translations work fine.

Note that the html conversion of the es.po also works fine.

There is an error in the command you have posted. The file "/docs/nact/es/nautilus-actions-config-tool.xml" doesn't exist, so dblatex command fails.

This file is located in "/docs/nact/C". Using the folliwng command, I've generated the PDF file without errors:

dblatex --output es/nautilus-actions-config-tool.pdf ../../docs/nact/C/nautilus-actions-config-tool.xml

(Note that I've changed the XML file's path)

In the other hand, msgfmt returns no error in es.po file.

Hi Daniel,

I think you've missed the ../../ in the command I posted.. ;) And the error message enough said that the .xml file has actually been found.

Nonetheless, if the pdf is correctly generated in your configuration, could you please post the version of the tools you are using ? And the output lines ?

I think my configurations (fedora14/fedora16) are up to date, but only from standard repositories...

Regards,
Pierre
Comment 3 Daniel Mustieles 2011-11-25 11:59:26 UTC
Pierre, the ../../ is not relevant, since I've executed the command inside the docs/nact folder, so I can use relative paths to buid the doc ;). Anyway, command should work with absolute or relative paths.

The problem is you are referencing a file that doesn't exists (/es/nautilus-actions-tools.xml). Language folders only contain .po file, not XML files, which are located in the C folder

Here are the steps I'm following:

1 - Execute dblatex command (in "nautilus-actions/docs/nact")

    dblatex --output es/nautilus-actions-config-tool.pdf ../../docs/nact/C/nautilus-actions-config-tool.xml

2 - Here is the output of the command:

/usr/share/dblatex/lib/dbtexmf/dblatex/grubber/util.py:8: DeprecationWarning: the md5 module is deprecated; use hashlib instead
  import md5
Build the book set list...
Build the listings...

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (work issues ;-) ) fully updated, with dblatex 0.2.12.4

Daniel,

Language folder actually contains exactly what I put in it during the build of the manuals.
Hope this is more clear this way:

I think the difference between dblatex (mine is 0.3 while yours is 0.2.12) is not relevant as all seems fine until the "Build nautilus-actions-config-tool.pdf" message.

So the issue should come from pdflatex:
mine is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6)
while yours is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-1.40.10 (TeX Live 2009/Debian).

On Fedora, pdfTeXk is the internal name of the pdftex binary, which is part of texlive-latex-2007-56.fc14.x86_64 package.

I have tried to run:
    dblatex -d nautilus-actions-config-tool.xml
in order to keep the temp working directory.
I find lot of files in this directory:

[pierre@kermit es]$ ll /tmp/tmpCi6v51
total 2080
drwx------ 2 pierre users 4096 Nov 25 21:48 ./

-rw-rw-r-- 1 pierre users 5797 Nov 25 21:48 nautilus-actions-config-tool.toc

and, eventually, even a nautilus-actions-config-tool.pdf file which seems fine with evince.

What should I do in your opinion ?
1/ ignore the error, just do not distribute es nact pdf manual
2/ take the pdf from the temp directory and cross the fingers
3/ identify a bug somewhere and try to fix it

Pierre

Maybe you could ask for help in the gnome-i18n mail list. There are several developers, maintainers and translators suscribed to the list, and someone could help us.

If there is any error in the Spanish translation, I will fix it, but at this moment i don't know how to fix it because I don't see any error in the es.po file :(
Comment 6 Claude Paroz 2011-11-28 09:13:58 UTC
I can confirm this is not a Spanish translation issue, at least not an issue that Spanish translators can fix.

The problem is that "Abrir una terminal aquì" is converted to latex expression "\caption{Abrir una terminal aqui\'}". I think the result should be either "aqu\i`" or "aquì".

So the bug is probably somewhere in the xml -> tex -> pdf toolchain.
Comment 7 Claude Paroz 2011-11-28 09:28:17 UTC
Sorry, just replace ì by í in my previous comment.
Comment 8 Pierre Wieser 2011-11-28 15:25:57 UTC
Hi Claude,

Thanks for the clarification.
Well, in the mean time, there is no reason the es translation suffers from a bug in the toolchain. I am going to choose the option 2/.

I keep this bug open, until I have some time to attribute it to the right tool.

Regards
Pierre
Comment 9 Daniel Mustieles 2012-04-07 08:23:08 UTC
What happened with this bug?
Comment 10 Daniel Mustieles 2012-09-05 09:55:39 UTC
Ping?
Comment 11 Pierre Wieser 2012-10-17 20:35:19 UTC
I'm not even able to properly run the xml -> tex -> pdf chain without an error, and even with just a single line in the file.

So, closing this bug and opening a new one for dblatex.

Regards.
