sometimes I can't eject the dvd in the dvd tray. 'Eject' is grayed out in the file menu (even after paused);

Another bug is that I was able to eject the DVD (while it was playing ?) but the Dvd Disc was still turning when it was ejected with the cd tray !

This should be fixed with the bug fix from bug 671285.

Yeah, not much that Totem can do there, it just asks GIO to do it, which calls udisks, which talks to the kernel, which possibly doesn't stop the disc.
