Description Jérôme 2011-11-07 20:20:37 UTC
Open pdf with fillable form :
http://www.lectia.fr/documents/lectia_dossier_de_candidature.pdf

Fill a field. The content can not be seen unless the field is selected.

Save and open with acrobat reader. The content is in the file but not displayed, as if white on white. Can be seen only if selected. Writing with acrobat behaves correctly : text is black on white.

Not sure this could be due to the document itself. After all it works with acrobat.

Not sure this version of evince is still supported.

Same issue with version 3.2.1

evince | 3.2.1-1 | http://debian.med.univ-tours.fr/debian/ wheezy/main amd64 Packages
evince-gtk | 3.2.1-1 | http://debian.med.univ-tours.fr/debian/ wheezy/main amd64 Packages

Can't reproduce with other files :
http://www.thewebjockeys.com/TheWebJockeys/Fillable_PDF_Sample_from_TheWebJockeys_vC5.pdf
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/Samples/interactiveform_enabled.pdf

There might be something dodgy in the file I am trying to fill. Yet, it works with acrobat reader. As if acrobat and evince were not using the same parameter/attribute to define the color/visibility of the text I enter.

Weirder. Once the file has been modified and save using acrobat, the behaviour with evince is correct, even for fields that have not been modified by acrobat.

In other words :

1 - Open that file with evince
http://www.lectia.fr/documents/lectia_dossier_de_candidature.pdf

The fields can be written but in a manner that makes the value unreadable unless the field is in edition mode (see description).

2 - Open the file with acrobat reader, modify it, save it. Open the modified file with evince and then it works like a charm.

I don't know if this error is worth invastigating for itself but that file might be a test case to consider, as it highlights a difference between both softwares. And it is an annoyance that could appear on other files.

There was a bug in poppler, where the DA stream was not correctly handled after filling a field. This has been fixed in recent versions of poppler. With evince 3.6.1 and poppler 0.20 I can't reproduce the issue, so closing it
Comment 4 Jérôme 2013-01-14 01:35:27 UTC
I can't reproduce either with 3.4.0.
