Description Robert Roth 2011-11-02 10:48:25 UTC
Disk Utility could be a great recovery tool and image maker if the feature to image disks was built into the program. Allowing someone to make an image or iso of a disk would greatly increase the usefulness of this program. It could be as simple as using dd in the back end to copy/convert a disk to an image.

Isn't this functionality covered by gparted?
Comment 2 Robert Roth 2011-11-07 11:32:26 UTC
Checked the features table of GParted at http://gparted.sourceforge.net/features.php and it doesn't mention it, installed GParted, and I haven't found anything related to this. But I guess the two tools shouldn't be only complementary, so even if GParted would have it, it shouldn't mean that it isn't needed in palimpsest. It's only a wishlist item.

I'm also linking the downstream report for further references.

Since 3.4, we've had the "Create Disk Image" feature, see

This problem has been fixed in our software repository. The fix will go into the next software release. Thank you for your bug report.
