GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 662944
Dim file extensions in file chooser dialogs
Last modified: 2018-05-02 15:15:25 UTC
Created attachment 200182 [details] Gtk file chooser with dimmed dialogs I would like an option to dim the file extension in Gtk file chooser dialogs. Many web browsers have now began dimming less relevant parts of the URL, such as the protocol, subdomain, path, and query string. I propose we have an option/setting/feature that does the same Gtk+. Dim the the file extension.
This is a nice idea for some people, but not for others. If this is implemented, please make it optional.
When I proposed this idea, I proposed it as an option. If implemented, I wish it to be optional.
Same ticket for nautilus in bug 662942.
We're moving to gitlab! As part of this move, we are moving bugs to NEEDINFO if they haven't seen activity in more than a year. If this issue is still important to you and still relevant with GTK+ 3.22 or master, please reopen it and we will migrate it to gitlab.
I don't know how to reopen it, but this is a feature request that has not been implemented yet, and it might still be nice.
"less relevant" is extremely subjective, and mostly for that reason, I think this is a very 'slippery slope' kind of option - even if it weren't the case that GNOME generally views adding options for options' sake as an anti-pattern. Also, I would assume that if there is ever any chance of this in GTK+, it would depend on Nautilus having the same thing. But then, IMHO, the real fix for every GtkFileChooser bug is to obliterate it from existence... and delegate to OS file chooosers instead, so in the case of GNOME, Nautilus would be providing it all.
