Description Hammer Attila 2011-10-28 10:58:16 UTC
Dear Developers,

I using GNOME3 fallback session with only Orca Screen Reader.
If I known right, only possible remove any panel applet from any panel if the user hold down the ALT key and click the mouse right button.
The problem this method is following:
Visual impaired users general not using mouse, doing system operations only with keyboard. This is absolute true users with entire not seeing the screen.

In oldest gnome 2.x releases I easy possible remove any panel applet my panels if I press the context menue button my keyboard, and choose "remove from panel" menu item.
If not a big request, please restore this menu item possibility with the next GNOME version if the fallback session is supported with next GNOME 3.4 release, and provide possibility visual impaired users to access this function only with keyboard usage.
Reproducation steps:
1. Please activate GNOME3 fallback session.
2. Choose any panel applet if you jump any panel with CTRL+ALT+TAB keystroke.
3. Navigate any applet with TAB or SHIFT+TAB key.
4. Press SHIFT+F10 keystroke, or press your keyboard the context menue button.
5. Look what menu items you seeing the popup context menue. Will be not seeing remove from panel menu item, you unable to remove the selected panel applet only with keyboard usage.

Have a workaround until this bug is not fixed:
If a visual impaired user using Orca Screen Reader, only possible to remove the selected panel applet if using ALT+Orca flat review rightclick command and choose "remove from panel" menu item.
Flat review right click command simulate a right mouse button click.
This possibility is not awailable of course sighted users with want removing a panel applet only with keyboard usage.

I am able to use keyboard to access the alternate menu. I use Ctrl+Alt+Tab like you suggest then Tab to the applet I want. Then I hold down Alt while pressing the menu key; I can use the arrow keys to choose which option I need off the menu.

This is using gnome-panel 3.4.1 on Ubuntu 12.04.

Hy Jeremi,

I don't understand this why not works me your suggestion. When I select an applet, hold down ALT key and press application menu key my keyboard, if I using ARROW keys, I see only usual following menu items:
Add to panel, Properties, delete panel, new panel. Unfortunately missing the move, remove from panel menu items.
I using too Ubuntu 12.04, GNOME3 fallback session and Gnome-panel 3.4.1-0ubuntu1 version.
If I activate any panel applet context menu with Alt+Orca flat review right click command, I see all menu items right.

Ok, I see what you're saying. I can confirm that I don't get the move or remove menu items.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
