Description Daniel Schürmann 2011-10-26 06:42:44 UTC
If you want to select an Application from the categories you have to cross the complete screen. Depending on your mouse sensitivity and your screen resolution you have to lift your hell of the hand.

Indeed. But designers are still not sure whether we can categories at all (see bug 662738). If we don't get rid of them, or if at least of few of them are still shown (like "Recently used"), it might make sense to move them to the left.

Designers, what's the plan for 3.4? If categories are here to stay, it would be good to move them to the left, disregarding the long-term plan.

Can this be fixed for 3.4 please?
Comment 6 Allan Day 2012-08-23 12:55:27 UTC
I don't think it makes sense to have the categories on the left. The application launchers are more important - we want them to be the first thing people see, and we want them to be in the centre of the screen.

I think most of the designers would like to see the categories removed, but we're probably not in a position to do that yet.
Comment 7 Allan Day 2013-02-20 15:17:28 UTC
Categories have now been removed (see bug 638271). Closing as obsolete.
