Description Eugueny Kontsevoy 2011-10-24 06:11:11 UTC
The window switcher (the one users see for Alt+Tab) is showing the wrong list: it shows ALL applications, i.e. it combines everything from all virtual desktops (workspaces)

This is a wrong behaviour since it defeats the purpose of even having the workspaces, i.e. there is no way to separate apps into independent groups.

A workspace (virtual desktop) must behave like a completely isolated computer, with its own list of apps, that's why they were introduced - to combat huge list of apps to iterate via Alt+Tab.

The current behaviour is exactly why OSX virtual desktops are not successful.

Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find.

Workspaces + Alt+Tab are in a long battle. I completely agree with you on both counts (Application-based is broken, workspaces need to be made more prominent), but believe it or not, some people use workspaces differently. See the bug report and long summary that I had with others on the GNOME team in bug #660502
