Description Andriopoulos Nikolaos 2011-10-13 12:19:41 UTC
if I leave my screen for a couple of minutes it dims. When I press a key, it only brightens a little bit. I can hardly see what I'm typing right now.
Before the first such dimming, using the brightness keys works fine to control brightness. AFter the first screensave, they don't work.

The laptop is plugged in.

When I press a key after it's gone into powersaving/screensaving mode, the screen should rebrighten.
Also, the controls for brightness should continue to work.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
Package: gnome-screensaver 3.2.0-0ubuntu1
SourcePackage: gnome-screensaver

By way of confirmation, I also have this exact problem on my HP Mini.
Comment 2 Matthias Clasen 2011-10-14 21:46:55 UTC
More likely a problem with the power plugin in gnome-settings-daemon. Moving there.
Comment 3 Lars Schotte 2011-10-15 13:19:23 UTC

launching gnome-control-panel
and then picking "screen"
and changing "turn off after" to "never" does make this problem stop happening, for me.

Changing "turn off after" to "never" does not work for me (Asus A3E, Intel i915GM).

Is this Ubuntu? There's no option for this upstream.

confirming this on HP Pavilion G6, Intel Core i3 integrated gfx.

@Richard Hughes: yes, this was Ubuntu. Probably the latest version at the time. It's been nearly 3 years! and I don't have that machine any more. Sorry...
