GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 661445
Navigation within the Control Centre is confusing the "All Settings" button is non-intuitive.
Last modified: 2011-10-20 10:01:32 UTC
Navigation within the Control Centre is confusing. When a user navigates to the screen of a individual setting, they lack clear markers indicating where the screen they are currently viewing sits within the informational hierarchy. It is also not instantly apparent that the the button labeled "All Settings" is the way to return to the main screen. This is partially due to the fact that the button just appears only on sub-screens, and lacks context. Desired Resolution: - Replace the "All Settings" button with a breadcrumb that is visible on all screens, including the home screen. - The breadcrumb should be structured "System Settings > [name of individual setting screen]"
This bug has also been reported in Launchpad for Ubuntu, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/845915
We now use a button with an icon for the "All Settings" button (as per bug 657043). Problems with the breadcrumb include: - we don't have a breadcrumb widget yet (bug 331703) - breadcrumb isn't very useful for the 2 level deep navigation (panels/tabs) - the widget would take room away from other widgets in there (including the master switch we want to add, bug 662196) A back/forward button would probably be somewhat useful. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 643322 ***
