Description Fayer Michael 2011-09-30 08:51:10 UTC
Everything was OK in old Ubuntu e.g., 10.04. After upgrading to Ubuntu 11.10, however, the font size in email reading window is quite small. The header font is bigger, but the text font is too small. And evo can't remember the size. Every time when reading emails I have to use Ctrl-+ to zoom in. This happens only for text emails. For html emails, it looks ok. Mail compose window also has small font (for composing text emails), and the text cursor (not mouse cursor) looks very strange: it has not same size as font (much bigger), and sometimes it looks not in the same line as text, but behaves in the same line!

I have converted mail format from mbox to maildr (?), because Evolution asks me to do so first time when I opened it after upgrading to new Ubuntu. I don't know if it is a reason. Another bug related to format conversion is, everytime when I sent an email out, it shows an error something like: "The mail has been successfully sent. But the post-processing had problem. It can't save draft in mbox://... It was saved in 'Sent'." And a "Dismiss" button is there too.

My OS:
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:	Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
Release:	11.10

My evolution:
$ apt-cache policy evolution
evolution:
  Installed: 3.2.0-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 3.2.0-0ubuntu2
  Version table:

Evo Preview Window

I also upgraded to 11.10, however from 11.04 and have not noticed any significant changes in fonts or rendition for HTML an non-HTML emails. Maybe you could include a screenshot of the font size issue using an email sent from yourself with no private content to rule out something environment specific, noting the 11.10 is still beta.

I have attached a plain text preview of an email to myself showing the font sizes on my current 11.10 B2 (3.2.0-0ubuntu2) instance.

The invalid Sent/Drafts may be related to issue #659726, but should be filed as a separate bug.

This attachment shows the high (abnormal) text cursor in the 1st line in the mail compose window. Note this mail was to be sent to myself and in plain text.

This is a pane in my evo setting window. Anything wrong? If more info needed, let me know.

See http://library.gnome.org/users/evolution/3.2/mail-error-failed-to-append-to-sent-folder.html.en

For future reference only ONE issue per report, please.

30pt is really huge. And it looks like your Monospace font does not support 30pt as its size. Please try different (smaller, around 10-12) values and if they work better, and report back.

In general I don't see any bug in Evolution in this report. :)

Thanks. The link should help. Sorry for multiple issue report. Usually I follow this rule. But all these problems (if not bugs) began to occur after a recent upgrade. So I think these may be due to same reason (probably a mistake in code) and report them together.

I changed both 30pt to 12pt. It did fixed the cursor and small font problems in preview and compose windows. Thanks! But when users setting improper sizes, evo should recognize it, I think. In this respect, it might be called a bug (Wiki's bug definition is very loose BTW, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bug).

And as mentioned above, evo can't remember the font size. I have to zoom in by Ctrl-+ every time reading emails. Previously this problem didn't exist. Hope anyone fix it.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
