GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 660226
Merge top bar with title bar and main menu when application is maximized
Last modified: 2017-08-09 02:47:57 UTC
One of the greate features in Unity is the automatic merging of the application title bar with the top bar when the application is maximized. The advantage of such a behaviour is an important gain of vertical space when you work with maximized windows. In Unity, even the application main menu is merged into the top bar. The same thing could also be done in gnome shell by populating the already existing application menu in the top bar (but only when the app is maximized of course). If we did that, the only information that would be lost would be the window title, but maybe it could be displayed as a tooltip over the application icon in the top bar?
Much discussion of this in the past (no handy reference, sorry), not planning to do this.
