Description Iain Lane 2011-09-16 10:04:09 UTC
Hi,

I was just trying to test Shuffle By Artist but couldn't figure out why it wasn't doing the shuffling correctly. Turns out it kind-of was but not all of the time.

 1. Turn on shuffle by album (or one of the ones that plays a defined sequence of more than one item and then does a random selection)
 2. Start playing track 1 of any album (ensuring no filters are active)
 3. Press next in the toolbar
 4. Track 1 of another album is played

At step 4, I expect track 2 to start playing. This is what would happen if I listened to the end of the song.

I think it's a fair thing to say that next should always perform the same action that you'd get by listening to the end of a song. Do you agree?

Cheers,
Iain

This sounds like the same issue as Bug 608781, so I'm going to mark this as a duplicate.

That bug is marked as WONTFIX because the current behavior is, in fact,
intended. The shuffle by artist/album modes treat entire artists or albums as
a group, and if you press the skip button, you are effectively skipping the
entire group of songs.

It's a bit of a tricky situation, so see Bug 608781 for more details and discussion. If you disagree with the reasoning there, maybe you can talk the developers into re-evaluating the behavior.

This is definitely a valid point.
