On a new installation Contacts doesn't show anything until I start Evolution (in addressbook mode). This is really not cool.

I believe http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-contacts/commit/?id=9216717296f4471084b820008c22be6b0e8dd5dd is meant to address that

Yeah, that fixes it mostly. There are some niggling details with GOA setup that needs fixing too. I'm working on that.
