GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 658523
Add "Open as Root" option to context menu.
Last modified: 2013-01-27 14:13:50 UTC
I have been using Linux along with Windows since 2006 and it has been a bumpy ride. However, GNOME 3 has really stirred things up and I now only use Linux. What I still miss in GNOME 3 is the ability to graphically work with files as root. I know you can use the terminal to open up a root instance of nautilus but come on. The nautilus context menu currently displays three related options: "Open", "Open in New Tab" and "Open in New Window". What about adding "Open as Root" to that list? 90% of what I do in the terminal is working with files using ls, cd, mv, rm, pwd, etc.. It could be done so much easier. Windows 7 and Vista works a lot like this - you click the UAC to get administrator permissions and you can easily drag and drop files where you want them. It should be that simple in GNOME too. You shouldn't have to use the terminal for this stuff. I know there are some terminal fanatics out there but come on guys. Correct me if this feature already exists but I don't think so? Peace.
I mean I use the terminal when i have to do root stuff.
You could also solve this by adding "New Root Window" under the "File" menu. You get the idea.
