GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 658344
Please let the user choose whether links from other programs open in a new window or not
Last modified: 2018-03-30 16:28:48 UTC
In GNOME 3, When I choose Epiphany as the default web browser, links opened from other programs appear in a new tab in a randomly-chosen Epiphany window (which is often on a different workspace, even if there is another Epiphany window available on the current workspace!). It used to be possible to choose to have links always open in a new window, on the current workspace, from within gnome-control-center; however this option has been removed in GNOME 3 and will not be re-added. According to bug 658339, it is up to the web browsers themselves to give the user this option.
This bug was reported against a version which is not supported any more. Developers are no longer working on this version so there will not be any bug fixes for it. Can you please check again if the issue you reported here still happens in a recent version of GNOME and update this report by adding a comment and adjusting the 'Version' field? Again thank you for reporting this and sorry that it could not be fixed for the version you originally used here. Without feedback this report will be closed as INCOMPLETE after 6 weeks.
Still happens with 3.4. The window chosen seems to be the one which was most recently activated. Just to be clear, what I'd like to be able to do is this: 1. Receive an email 2. Start working on a task based on the email. I therefore want to create a new workspace for it 3. Open a link in the email 4. A new epiphany window for the link opens on the current workspace 5. Drag the new window to an empty workspace and continue working on the task in that workspace Currently, at step 4, I instead have to: 4`. Switch through workspaces, hunting for the one with an epiphany window that contains the new tab 5`. Drag the new tab outside of the existing window's tab bar to create a new window 6`. Continue with step 5 in the first list This is a bit more of a pain.
This is a mass NEEDINFO of all Epiphany bugs with no activity in the past three years. I'm going to be automatically closing old bugs to help us focus on current problems. If you feel this bug is still relevant with Epiphany 3.26 or newer, then please leave any comment here so that I know not to close this one.
This is a mass-close of old bugs currently in the NEEDINFO state. If you think this bug is still relevant, please leave a comment.
