GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 658154
Device Name setting missing
Last modified: 2012-03-27 09:12:29 UTC
There is no option to set the bluetooth device name in the bluetooth settings.
There is, it's in the "System Info" panel. See: http://www.hadess.net/2011/06/pretty-oh-so-pretty.html
It isn't quite clear where to (and how to) set it. Intuitively, the first place one would look for, to set the Bluetooth Device name, would be the bluetooth panel isn't it? Would be good have a tooltip, or pop-up explaining the feature. Besides, some people like to have a different name for the Bluetooth Device, (different from the machine name). Any way to add something like that? Also, what about those distros not using systemd? I tested it under an Ubuntu 11.10 beta1 installation.

In the future, when the documentation is updated, that's where it will be explained. > Besides, some people like to have a different name for the Bluetooth Device, > (different from the machine name). Any way to add something like that? No, and we're not interested in supporting that. > Also, what about those distros not using systemd? They can implement the same D-Bus interface, or ship just the helpers from systemd. That's already been discussed in the past. > I tested it under an Ubuntu 11.10 beta1 installation. If you cannot change the adapter name, feel free to file a bug against Ubuntu.

Maybe i do not want to propagate who i am on bluetooth? Please clarify your point.
The functionality is in the System Info panel. If it isn't, complain to your distribution.
