GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 65789
GIMP crashes when switching from internal to 'Netscape' browser
Last modified: 2009-08-15 18:40:50 UTC
If I set the browser to Internal in the Interface/Help System of the <Toolbox>/Preferences... dialog, then select <Toolbox>/Help/Help..., a dialog will pop up ("Could not find GIMP Help Browser") and tell me that I do not have the internal help browser installed. The dialog will offer me to "Use Netscape instead". If I click on that button, GIMP crashes. This problem also occurs in WinGIMP 1.2.3-pre2
Hi Colin! I don't have the Windows version so I cannot check if this bug is real or not, but I trust you for sending good bug reports so I will confirm this and set its status to NEW.
Created attachment 6317 [details] [review] This should fix the crash.
Applying that patch still leaves another problem, though: After replying affirmatively to the "Use Netscape instead" dialog, the user's default web browser does indeed open up, but instead of showing the "introduction.html" document the contents of the help/C directory is showed (because idle_help->help_data is still NULL). BTW, the word "Netscape" should be changed to "default web browser" on Windows.
Created attachment 6318 [details] [review] This seems to fix the problem of getting a directory view (instead of introduction.html) after confirming "Use Netscape instead"
Fixed in CVS gimp-1-2. In HEAD we probably want to revamp it more throroughly, it is a bit silly to even let the user choose the "internal" browser if it isn't available.
Fix is part of gimp-1.2.3, which has just been released. Bug is now CLOSED.
