Description Sam Morris 2011-08-31 18:43:04 UTC
If I select a particular contact in the address book, Evolution grabs both the mouse and keyboard and doesn't let go. I have to switch to another virtual terminal and kill the evolution process.

While in this state, pressing Alt+F1 causes gnome-shell to log the following message:

    JS LOG: pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed

The only thing special about the contact in question is that it has a picture associated with it. Other contacts that do not have a picture do not cause this behaviour.

Thanks for a bug report. Could you install debug info packages for evolution-data-server, evolution, gtk3 and glib2 and attach here a backtrace of the frozen evolution, which can be obtained like this:
   $ gdb --batch --ex "t a a bt" -pid=PID &>bt.txt
where PID is a process ID of a running evolution? Please make sure the bt.txt file will not contain any private information before you attach it here.

On a similar line, I know about a similar bug, with contacts which has filled more than one Instant Messaging ID, it's bug #473862, which is workarounded in evolution 3.0.3.

I tried to reproduce this by adding a picture to another contact, but was unable to.

Having read your comment, I saw that the problematic contact had both a Jabber and MSN instant messaging ID associated with it. I removed the MSN ID (with the Contacts application from the Pimlico project) and now I can select the contact without any problem.
