Description F Wolff 2011-08-23 14:46:48 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #645933 +++

Please review this string for translation:

There are many instances of wrapping with newlines, like this one:
  ../panels/user-accounts/um-user-panel.c:866
To make changes,
click the * icon first

What is the significance of the wrapping? What is the translator's responsibility? It is far, far preferable to have GTK+ handle wrapping if at all possible.

This is a tooltip text.
There is unfortunately no really good way to tell gtk 'make it wrap to look good'.
Comment 2 F Wolff 2011-08-24 08:15:49 UTC
Thank you for the useful comment, Matthias. So what is the responsibility of the translator? I guess there is some design decision behind this to have wrapping instead of just a plain tooltip, so I'm not sure what to suggest as a comment to translators yet. What are the considerations for translators? A certain goal in terms of width or is the idea to have the action "click" on the new line?
