GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 657024
fail safe mode when using dual monitors
Last modified: 2011-08-22 15:39:48 UTC
There a problem gnome 3 when using more then one monitor. In this day and time most people are using two or more monitor and to have gnome 3 alway failing into safe mode after connecting a two monitors is kinda out dated. My understanding gnome has decide not to go with compiz and went with another option that has know problems with video cards. I believe this was a bad move and in the future releases or maybe a update can be send out that will fix this problem. Otherwise give people the option to go back to the old gnome because in fail safe mode it not worth having.. thanks
Thanks for your report. Can you please provide information about your graphics card, your driver and version, and the distribution used?
Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 secondary [Sapphire X550 Silent] fedora 15
start ati drivers that come with fedora 15. it work fine until you attach another monitor then if failed to safe mode. The only way to get it to work is to remove the second monitor. I dont have a problem using dual screen with kde but gnome 3 failed everytime.
pretty sure r300 has either a 2048 or 2560 horizontal texture limit. You might try configuring your monitors to be oriented vertically instead of horizontally. This is not a GDM bug, but there is a similar gnome-shell bug open, so i'm going to dupe it to that. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 645087 ***
