Description Jeremy Bicha 2011-08-20 21:01:59 UTC
In later releases of GNOME 2, an individual could go to a locked GNOME computer and leave a message for the logged-in user. This is a nice feature and should be returned to GNOME 3.

I wonder a bit about the usecase in times of IM and Email.
Comment 2 William Jon McCann 2011-09-02 14:15:27 UTC
Yes it was kind of neat. However, it was removed because it didn't really work well. I don't think we're going to add it back.
Comment 3 Tomasz Borek 2012-08-27 12:29:57 UTC
Hi William.

Could you expand your comment? What was wrong with the feature? Is there really no way to add it back? It seems trivial on the outside - dialog to enter text, text gets saved with timestamp, then upon screensaver being interrupted and person being back in their session, text is displayed.

What were the problems?
Comment 4 André Klapper 2012-08-27 12:51:00 UTC
Probably a bit late to remember now. See bug 619954 for removal.
Comment 5 Ray Strode [halfline] 2012-08-27 16:10:30 UTC
now that we don't use gnome-screensaver any more, and use the shell isntead, we have a lot more infrastructure in place to do this sort of thing better.

Probably worth refiling as an RFE against gnome-shell/lock-screen and talking to #gnome-design for potential mock ups.
