GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 656651
ALT-TAB also tabs sub-windows.
Last modified: 2014-04-26 19:02:18 UTC
I tent to have more than one window open for an application. When ALT-TAB it would be nice to have it tab through the windows rather than having to use the arrow keys or mouse. ALT-TAB only requires one hand.
That's what Alt-` is for (or whatever key is located above TAB in your layout).
Ok then how about having ALT-` go between apps rather than staying to only one.
The current behavior with ALT-TAB switching only between applications forces the user to think about applications and not just open documents. Two writer documents open both represent tasks, as does an open mail client or web browser. Grouping the two writer documents as a 'single application' is an arbitrary and implementation specific distinction which the user doesn't really care about.
Yes I agree, with this suggestion Can you tell how to customize behavior to : * alt-tab cycle all windows of all desktops (like old wm) * alt-` for cycling sub-windows of current application Is there an ergonomy document to look at ? Regards
We do have a (GNOME2-style) window switcher in addition to the GNOME3 app switcher nowadays (though only the latter has a keyboard shortcut assigned by default), so tentatively closing this. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 688913 ***
