GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 656613
Every sudoku puzzle should have only one valid solution
Last modified: 2012-01-11 03:07:50 UTC
Copying bug report from https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/690989 Per my understanding of Sudoku Puzzles, each puzzle should only have one correct answer (Unique Solution). If there is more than one solution the puzzle is considered "not properly formed". On a personal level I feel that its very frustrating that the Sudoku puzzles comes to a point where I have to "Quess" which number to pick, as this is not Logical. And Soduko is suppose to be a logical game. Please refer to: * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudoku * http://www.dailysudoku.com/sudoku/faq.shtml Also refer to this screenshot of a game I can not complete with out guessing. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-games/+bug/690989/+attachment/1767463/+files/Sudoku.png Request: Please fix the Sudoku that comes with Ubuntu to allow me to Force it to give me only "Properly Formed" one solution puzzles.
1. This report is poorly substantiated. If you've found a game that doesn't have a unique solution, you should be able to explicitly show that. For example, you could fill in all of the squares, then identify which entries can be swapped to yield a different solution. 2. The solver at http://www.sudokuwiki.org/sudoku.htm has a "solution count" feature that returns 1 for this puzzle. See http://www.sudokuwiki.org/sudoku.htm?bd=010406309000030850000000060060500702250607013407002090070000000094050000603904070
Created attachment 204997 [details] screenshot of solver result for this puzzle Attached is a screenshot showing that this puzzle does indeed have only one solution.
