GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 656337
Ability to force new documents to open in new tabs in the same window
Last modified: 2020-11-24 09:57:38 UTC
Whenever I'm on a different workspace and open a text file, instead of reusing the window on the workspace where I put gedit, gedit creates a new window. This is quite annoying, especially in the app-centric gnome shell where I have I hard time finding in which of workspace I left gedit, or rather in which window in which workspace I opened a particular document. I'd really want everything to be contained in the same window, as tabs, and that opening a new file focuses the gedit window if possible. Anyway, having everything in the same window would also mean I could alt-tab switch much more easily to it. Thanks!
I have the same problem. More over, it seems that gedit insists in opening a new window if I open a document from a remote server while I already have a gedit window containing local files.
I confirm, the current behavior is maybe not the best one on gnome-shell.
Mass-closing of all gedit bugzilla tickets. Special "code" to find again all those gedit bugzilla tickets that were open before the mass-closing: 2bfe1b0590a78457e1f1a6a90fb975f5878cb60064ccfe1d7db76ca0da52f0f3 By searching the above sha256sum in bugzilla, the gedit contributors can find again the tickets. We may be interested to do so when we work on a specific area of the code, to at least know the known problems and possible enhancements. We do this mass-closing because bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org.
