When right clicking on an object (such as a file in nautilus, or an email in evolution) brings up a long context-sensitive menu of actions, it is positioned below the item if there is enough screen space below, or above if not.

When the menu is positioned above, the top item can be partially (almost entirely) obscured by the top bar of the shell, depending on the positions of the parent window and the item.
