Description rboroughs 2011-07-20 21:31:37 UTC
I am validating user input using a named range using the following formula:
'=offset(References!$A$2,0,0,counta(References!$A:$A),1)'

The validation is in the form of a list drop down box.

When either importing or exporting from MS Excel format, whilst the named range is still there and the relevant cell has a validation criteria, it is no longer in the form of a drop down list. Reviewing cell properties, this section is now unticked.

Cheers

You could possibly help having this fixed by attaching two otherwise identical files one with drop box and one without.

File exported in .xlsx format

Attached is what you are after. It also occurs when importing .xlsx format files.

M$ made their new format very difficult, even when using their own filter in excel for people on >= 2003 Excel, formatting on large sheets gets destroyed.

Thank you, but I was looking for two files in xls format, both with list validation, one with dropbox and one without.

If I open the xlsx file in current Gnumeric (current git, ie. 1.10.17) I see a a validation dropbox. Apparently the source is a defined range called "Test" which turns out to be not defined.

So you attached a .gnumeric file and a .xlsx file. The issue here seems to be that Gnumeric fails to export the defined expression "Test".

The title of this bug report talks about the xls format (Excel's old binary format). Is there any problem relating to that xls format?
Comment 7 Andreas J. Guelzow 2011-07-21 07:14:41 UTC
I have fixed the export of defined names to xlsx. Import already seemed to work fine in current git. List validation creates the requested drop box in current git also.

Assuming that this report relates to xlsx (OOXML) only and not to the binary xls format then this should now be fixed for Gnumeric 1.10.17.

From Reece:
Thank you Andreas, I believe you are right in that it only affects the
xlsx format files, not .xls. Thanks for sorting this one out, you guys
are unbelievably efficient!
