GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 654699
When copying, detect files with same content but different names
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:17:38 UTC
this report has been filed here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/807870 "When copying or moving files from one directory to another, it is very often useful to know if there are identical files in the destination directory, albeit under different names. This should not be done by default, but using a "paste special" operation that could be placed as a menu entry that opens a dialog with the check box "Check for destination files with identical content"; later, other check boxes can be added. If files with identical content are found, open a dialog letting the user skip the file, rename the file, or cancel the whole copy operation. This dialog would be similar to the Replace File dialog and maybe it can be integrated with it."

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
