GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 654501
Message about unsupported disc type needs to be improved
Last modified: 2018-09-21 17:19:14 UTC
this report has been filed here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/809518 "When I attempted to burn an ISO to an optical disc not supported by my drive, it gave the following error message in the log: ... BraseroGrowisofs stdout: Executing 'builtin_dd if=/home/kip/Desktop/Image.iso of=/dev/sr0 obs=32k seek=0' BraseroGrowisofs called brasero_job_set_dangerous BraseroGrowisofs stderr: :-[ READ DVD STRUCTURE #10h failed with SK=0h/ASC=00h/ACQ=03h]: Input/output error ... This is not so useful to most users. It took me a long time to figure out what the problem was. I was using a DVD-R DL type disc, but my drive does not support that. See below in the "Features" section for the supported types. $ hwinfo --cdrom 29: SCSI 100.0: 10602 CD-ROM (DVD) [Created at block.247] UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_CDDVDW_TS_L633A Unique ID: KD9E.qxAIL8C2Dy5 Parent ID: w7Y8.CERNLDopX00 SysFS ID: /class/block/sr0 SysFS BusID: 1:0:0:0 SysFS Device Link: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/host1/target1:0:0/1:0:0:0 Hardware Class: cdrom Model: "TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633A" Vendor: "TSSTcorp" Device: "CDDVDW TS-L633A" Revision: "TM00" Driver: "ahci", "sr" Driver Modules: "ahci" Device File: /dev/sr0 (/dev/sg1) Device Files: /dev/sr0, /dev/block/11:0, /dev/scd0, /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-1:0:0:0, /dev/cdrom, /dev/cdrw, /dev/dvd, /dev/dvdrw Device Number: block 11:0 (char 21:1) Features: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+DL, DVDRAM Drive status: no medium Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #19 (SATA controller) Drive Speed: 24 A better error message would have been: "You are attempting to burn to a DVD-R DL type disc, but your drive only supports the following formats: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+DL, DVDRAM.""
