GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 654419
Chat history for Facebook lacks name of friend but shows ids
Last modified: 2011-07-18 14:49:18 UTC
This report was originally filled at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/806270 Looking at Empathy's chat history (protocol, don't know the english menu name for it) reveals that instead of the friends' names, their numeric ID is shown - unreadable, unusable - does anybody test features like this? ;-) See attached screenshot, please! ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: empathy 2.34.0-0ubuntu3.1 / tested in 3.1 Ubuntu Oneiric [1]https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/805588/+attachment/2190993/+files/empathy.png
This has been fixed in 3.1.x with the new log viewer.
Guillaume, as I said before I tested this behaviour with empathy 3.1.3 but it still happening, please look the attached screenshot.

Which version of telepathy-logger are you using?
Currently running telepathy-logger 0.2.10-1 (ships with Ubuntu Oneiric), if you need any other information please just ask me.
(When I first saw this I thought it might be related to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37112 but perhaps not. Just thought I'd add it here for the record.)
I fixed this right after 3.1.3, so it will be fixed in 3.1.4. I'm closing this bug, but I don't use facebook so I haven't tested it with that (I have tested with other protocols though), so please reopen if it still happens with 3.1.4 (when that's released). Thanks!
Thank you Emilio.

It doesn't matter much (as long as you have a Facebook account connected) as we create EmpathyContacts from the TplEntities, and that retrieves the alias from the connection. We were overriding the EmpathyContact's alias with the TplEntity's one when we didn't want to do that in that case though.
Just for the record, I figured out that the correct url from downstream was https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/805588, sorry about that.
