When recording full screen using recordMyDesktop or using certain Wine apps, the top panel and the system tray completely disappear and only come back once those applications are closed.

You can go back to the Activities view using the Windows key.

this is because they're creating a window covering the entire desktop, and so we hide the panel, not realizing that the window is transparent.
