Description todd_dsm 2011-07-09 23:31:36 UTC
I've been using dia for a while - it's a great package for decisioning. Recently I've needed to build UI screens for a web app. Dia seems like the right package to implement this functionality somewhere in the Gnome universe.

To that end, this is an RFE (Request For Enhancement) to build UI Mockup functionality into dia.

During my search for software to aid in this area I found a lot of services that ranged from financially invasive to not so bad. Some were cross-platform, most are windows/mac only. Linux is an after thought again.

The only package I found, that really suited early project requirements (free), was The Pencil Project:
http://pencil.evolus.vn/en-US/Home.aspx

It's very good but it made me think of dia to begin with. This could be a great turning point for dia if it included:

1) Wire-framing for:
a) UI
b) Web UI and
c) Mobile mockups
2) Site Maps for completed Mockups
3) Export to .png, .jpg, etc
4) Ability to export .xml

I realize the enormity of this RFE. If dia is not the appropriate package for this type of functionality it's an understandably low/no priority. Please give it meaningful consideration. In this environment of web/mobile-apps, it would be another great reason for people to make the switch.

I hope this finds you all well.

Thanks in advance for your time,

TT

This was requested mutiple times on the mailing list. Last time I recall was
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/dia-list/2011-January/msg00026.html

It should be possible to create such shapes with Dia's custom shape facility but up until now non such did show up. It wont happen without anyone trying, though.

Duplicating to the older request in Dia bugzilla.
